playlist: happy + free run

Some days, I must admit I just need angry chick music to muster up the motivation to run. Some days however, I loooove how it feels to run & the freedom. And since I've been feeling particularly free this week, I thought I'd post my fave happy-free 30 minute run mix. This has just the right balance of ups and downs and the right sound to keep me motivated to finish with a bang. Enjoy!

1] Love Lost-- The Temper Trap

2] Dog Days Are Over-- Florence + The Machine (this whole album is golden for running/birthing)

3] Keep the Car Running-- Arcade Fire

4] North By North-- Faded Paper Figures

5] Zero-- Yeah Yeah Yeahs

6] Sweet Disposition-- The Temper Trap

7] Jump In the Pool-- Friendly Fires

8] You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb-- Spoon

Extended edition:
9] You've Got the Love-- Florence + The Machine
10] If Looks Could Kill-- Camera Obscura
11] My Moon My Man-- Feist

February is all about indulgences. The trouble is, the indulgences lined up in the Valentine's aisle at the grocery store only make me feel good for about 5 minutes while I'm snacking away.

This month's playlist is a solid hour of relaxing tunes perfect for the indulgent work-out. Whether it be a session of Yoga, Pilates, a ballet barre stretch-out, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing (my favorite!) reconnect with your body and treat it to the kind of indulgences it really craves.

01. Beach Baby -- Bon Iver
02. Tear Drop -- Massive Attack
03. Don't Forget -- Martha Wainwright
04. Train Song -- Vashti Bunyan (or Feist & Ben Gibbard's cover)
05. Grace -- Kate Havnevik
06. Desert Song -- Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros
07. Crystalised -- The Xx
08. Stormy Weather -- Etta James
09. Be Here Now -- Ray LaMontagne
10. Don't Forget Me -- Neko Case
11. The Story -- Zee Avi
12. Ragged Wood -- Fleet Foxes
13. True Affection -- The Blow
14. Such Great Heights -- The Postal Service

My awesome, lovely friend Emily is back with a new workout playlist just for you. You're going to love it!

Woohoo!

my music guru

I've been piggy-backing off my awesome friend emily's rockstar music taste since we were roomies many moons ago. She's still awesome. And I'm still piggy-backing. She put together this fab playlist for about 30 minutes of cardio just for you. Enjoy! Check out more of my stylist/rockstar/mommy-to-be friend here.

getting a good cardio work-out in is something i dread at the beginning but end up feeling so good during and after. this playlist is perfect for a stretch, warm-up, run/jog, and cool down. to sustain a 30 minute run, i need music with beats that pump me up and push me through when my legs start feeling noodle-ish.

01. les artistes - santogold (stretch)
02. help i'm alive (warm-up) - metric
03. four songs & a fight - the sounds
04. panic switch - silversun pickups
05. baba o'reilly - the who
06. special - mew
07. what to do - ok go
08. love is a battlefield - pat benatar
09. turn to stone - electric light orchestra
10. lullaby (mountain) - the acorn (cool down)

we all need that mid-work out swift kick in the pants (#5), and that truly embarrassing 80's ballad to sing along breathlessly to (#8.) since my schedule and preference usually put me working out at night, a cool down is vital before i hit the sack. the more soothing the better. (#10)
