taste this: pull apart orange rolls

I've found no one in LA knows what orange rolls are. It's such a shame because they are delicious. Then again, maybe it's one less thing to be tempted by. I got this recipe from Martha Stewart & made these delights Sunday. We were in orange roll heaven & shared them with everyone we could. This is a great summer treat, definitely a indulgence. Here.

me: how much do you love me?
r: a hundred [percent]

A few minutes later….
me: no, how much do you LOVE me?
r: a million

And a few minutes later…
me: no, really though?
r: a BAZILLION
me: silent, satisfied

and we're off

I started my morning off with a donut, People, & a viewing of last night's The City. Trashy food + trashy entertainment. And you know, I don't feel a smidge of guilt.

I've got a run with some killer stairs and some much needed yoga on the docket today. I'm thinking I should probably include something healthy for lunch to balance out the sugar rush I'm currently experiencing.  I'm really hoping to get into crazy cleaning lady mode today. LA's experiencing some serious June gloom & I need to snap out of it.

smarter snacking: chocolate sweet crisps

Sometimes I just need some chocolate. Still, I want to feel good after the fact. These are perfect to get a little sugar + get some good stuff too. Genisoy.

necessary restraint

I've done plenty of indulging this week; everything from shopping to cuban food. So, instead of entertaining the many ideas I have to indulge [I have sooo many], I think I will restrain myself. I will, however, be enjoying the latest issue of Lucky which arrived in the mail this week. I love a good thick magazine.

mamma mia!

My wonderful in-laws are coming to visit this weekend. One of our favorite places to eat, which I'm sure we will be visiting, is C & O Trattoria in Marina Del Rey. Their mini garlic rolls are to die for, again and again. I might have one or two... or five. I'll try to keep it under five.

Ciao! A dopo.

apple crisp weekend

It is a Nina Simonds week. This is another recipe from her book Spices of Life. I treated myself to this yummy fall treat. Let me tell you, it was well worth it. It's yummy enough, but light enough.

Topping:
1 C unbleached all-purpose flour
½ C sugar
½ C lightly packed light brown sugar
1 t cinnamon
½ t salt
½ C [1 stick] cold unsalted butter, cut into tablespoon size pieces

Fruit Filling:
10 large Cortland or McIntosh apples
1 lemon, cut in half *[I used a lime instead, very good]
1 t ground cinnamon
2 T  sugar [if the apples are very tart]

First: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Put the flour, white and brown sugars, cinnamon, and salt in a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Add the butter pieces and pulse until the mixture resembles cornmeal. Set Aside.
Second: Generously butter an 8- or 9-inch square baking dish or a 10-inch pie dish with high sides. Peel and core the apples and rub with the cut lemon. Cut the apples into ½ to ¾ inch pieces and toss lightly with the cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Pour the apples into the prepared pan. Spoon the topping over the apples sprinkling it evenly.
Third: Bake about 40 to 45 minutes, until the crumb topping is golden but with a few spots of light brown, and the apples are tender when tested with a knife. Let cool slightly before serving warm, or serve at room temperature. To reheat, bake uncovered at 300 degrees for 10-15 minutes, until hot.

Enjoy your Halloween Weekend!

cleaning an indulgence?

The one thing I want more than anything is to spend the day cleaning my apartment. ahhh...

Enjoy your weekend!

Crepes and Pluots and Kiesh, Oh My!

After work, I moseyed around the weekly farmers market in Playa Vista. It goes on literally next door to the studio. Flowers, crepes, fresh squeezed orange juice, kiesh, pluots, veggies, homemade bread, & carmel corn. It's borderline fair food, but all organic and delish. I settled on a croisant the size of my head. That should satisfy my french pastry hankering for a while.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Mosey around & eat something delicious.

After work, I spent the morning not doing the laundry, catching up my inner fashionista instead.
